At first, most of the films were directed by Russian directors, but in the period from 1996 to 2008, 45 countries joined the festival as directors, producers, juries and the press. The festival and its program have changed over the years. In 2007, a documentary film competition was introduced, and a year later the Listapadzik competition for children's and youth films was launched. In 2019, a total of 154 films from 50 countries took part in the festival. During the week, more than 200 screenings took place at 6 venues, which were attended by about 20,000 people. The festival also holds various workshops, discussions and exhibitions to provide an opportunity to learn from famous film experts and discuss important issues related to modern cinema. The founders and organizers of the festival are the Ministry of Culture of Belarus, the Minsk City Executive Committee with the participation of the Belteleradiocompany, the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers, the National Film Studio "Belarusfilm" and other public and commercial organizations.
