The Catholic parish in Gervyaty was founded in 1526 by Bishop Jan of Vilna, at the same time a small church was built. In 1621, instead of the old church Bishop Evstafiy Volovich built a wooden church of the Holy Trinity (burned down in 1736). In the 1820s and 1860s the church was repaired by Matej and Kazimir Domeiko. In 1860 Kazimir laid a stone bell tower. Another renovation was carried out in 1894–1895. Three years later the church was demolished.

In 1899–1903, in its place, the architect Vatslav Mikhnevich built a 61-meter (high) neo-Gothic church. The church was consecrated on September 8, 1904. More than 70 people worked on the construction every day. A brick factory was built especially for the church. Lime was made from limestone, which was mined in the Losha River. For strength, eggs, which were collected by the thousands from local peasants, were added to the lime. The construction was financed by Vaclav Domeiko and his mother Anzhela Narushevich. German roof tiles were donated by Angela's son-in-law, Stanislav Poplavsky. Repairs were carried out in 1933 and 1980s.
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a characteristic example of the neo-Gothic style. It is often called "Belarusian Notre Dame".
