Until 2010, a highway connecting the state of Arizona with Mexico passed through the dam. After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, vehicular traffic across the dam was severely restricted. Some types of vehicles are subject to mandatory screening before passing. These measures led to the construction of a bridge across the Black Canyon, bypassing the Hoover Dam. On October 19, 2010, the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge was opened (Mike - ex-governor of Nevada, Pat - famous rugby player who became a military man after September 11 and scandalously died due to friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004). The length of the bridge is 579 m, the height above the river is 271 m. The Hoover Dam has been featured in many movies (like Transformers) and games (like GTA: San Andreas). In particular, the Hoover Dam is a key location in the game Fallout: New Vegas, where the plot is tied around the clash of interests of various factions and an attempt to conquer the dam.
