The Grand Canyon is one of the most famous places in the world. It is located in the USA in Northern Arizona. People from different countries come to see the colourful landscapes and to feel the atmosphere of the Grand Canyon that amazes with its sizes.

The Canyon is 270 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and a mile deep. It mainly consists of layered rocks and lava flows. The Grand Canyon keeps the secrets of previous generations, that’s why the place attracted many expeditions that came there to explore and map the canyon.

The Grand Canyon is not a deserted place. About 2,000 species of plants grow there. In addition, more than 30 mammal species live in the canyon by the Colorado River corridor.

Even if the Grand Canyon became a National Monument in 1893, it didn’t achieve National Park status until 1919. Today Grand Canyon National Park covers an enormous area and receives several million visitors every year.

Apart from usual sightseeing, tourists can also vary their leisure time and try different activities. It is possible to skydive, raft, hike and take the helicopter tour as well. It goes without saying that most of the activities are extreme, however today extreme sport is highly popular especially among young people.
